2026 D.FESTA Small Theater Festival

Now marking its 20th anniversary, the “D.FESTA Small Theater Festival” has worked to understand changes in the domestic production environment and the direction of the performance market, striving to lead a better performance culture. Its purpose is to seek new paths for experimental and creative small-theater performances. Since 2016, through regional exchanges with places such as Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon, and Busan, it has worked to reduce cultural gaps not only in Seoul’s Daehak-ro but across the country. Through continued efforts to expand its reach via cultural exchanges with overseas performance teams, this year it is now able to visibly present the results of its ongoing international cultural exchanges, including Asian co-creation projects with countries and regions such as Sapporo and Tokyo in Japan, China, and Taiwan, as well as the Small Theater Festival in Tokyo. Now is the time to expand the festival’s biennial regional hosting as it takes a leap forward as not only a domestic festival but also an international one, and to work toward the globalization of the Small Theater Festival in connection with festivals in countries around the world. As a starting point, it is hoped that the successful hosting of this 20th-anniversary “D.FESTA Small Theater Festival” will serve as a foundation for introducing outstanding domestic performances overseas, while also assessing and understanding the cultural standards of other countries.
