Pohang Night of Falling Flowers

Oct 9, 2026 ~ Oct 17, 2026 · 45, Chukhang-ro, Nam-gu, Pohang-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do (Haedo-dong)

On a cool autumn night, soft lights fall over the waterways of Pohang Canal. Nakhwa Nori is a traditional Korean fireworks display in which charcoal powder is wrapped in hanji and slowly burned. Because it does not use gunpowder, it does not burst like firecrackers; instead, the light gradually spreads along the nakhwa lines stretched across the canal. The festival’s biggest highlight is the sight of two 75-meter nakhwa lines installed diagonally, richly illuminating the canal night and the surface of the water. At Pohang Canal, once cut off as a waterway and later revived through citizens’ efforts, the “fire” of the industrial city of Pohang and the “water” that symbolizes restoration meet in a single scene. With no official ceremonies or singer performances, this festival, filled only with nakhwa and music, is a space devoted entirely to citizens and visitors.
