Maps and transit
Naver Map handles walking, transit, and driving routes and gives the most accurate real-time bus and subway information. Kakao Map is better for finding restaurants and reading reviews. Google Maps does not provide full turn-by-turn navigation in Korea due to government map-data export regulations. For train bookings, use Korail Talk for KTX and the SRT app for the SRT high-speed line.
Taxis and translation
KakaoT lets you call a taxi from the app and pay by card — useful even without Korean since you can drop a pin on the map. Papago is Naver's translation app and more accurate for Korean than most alternatives. Its camera translation feature reads menus and signs in real time.
Useful additions
Kakao Bus and Kakao Subway show live arrivals and crowding. Mobile payment apps like Naver Pay and Kakao Pay can be difficult to set up on foreign devices — a card is the most practical backup.
